US Visa Photo Requirements: Avoid Rejection in the UAE

A rejected photo can delay your DS-160. The rules are strict but simple once you know them.

Basic rules

Your photo should be:

  • 2x2 inches (51x51 mm), in colour
  • Taken within the last 6 months
  • Plain white or off-white background
  • Full face, neutral expression, eyes open

Glasses and head coverings

Glasses are generally not allowed. Religious head coverings are usually allowed if the full face is visible.

Common mistakes

Shadows, filters, selfies, or old photos are frequent reasons for rejection.

Tip

Use the official photo tool on travel.state.gov to check your image before uploading. Always confirm current rules on the official US Department of State and US Embassy UAE websites, as requirements and fees can change. Global Migratz is independent and not affiliated with the US government.
