US Visa Interview Questions in Dubai: What Officers Ask & How to Answer

Most US visa interviews last only a few minutes. The officer wants to understand your purpose of travel and your ties to the UAE or your home country. Short, honest, consistent answers work best.

Questions for tourist (B1/B2) applicants

Be ready for:

  • Why are you travelling to the USA?
  • How long will you stay and where?
  • Who is paying for the trip?
  • What do you do in the UAE and for how long?
  • Have you travelled abroad before?

Questions for student (F1) applicants

  • Why did you choose this university and course?
  • How will you fund your studies?
  • What are your plans after graduation?

How to answer well

Answer the question asked, in one or two sentences. Do not memorise scripts. Keep documents organised but only hand them over when asked. Your answers must match your DS-160.

If you are refused under 214(b)

A 214(b) refusal means the officer was not convinced of your ties at that time. You can reapply when your circumstances or the way you present them have genuinely changed. Always confirm current rules on the official US Department of State and US Embassy UAE websites, as requirements and fees can change.
