Got admission to a US university? The F1 student visa process from the UAE has a few extra steps compared with a tourist visa. Here is the order to follow.
1. Get your Form I-20
Your US school issues the I-20 after admission and proof of funds. Check that your name and details match your passport.
2. Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee
Pay the SEVIS fee on the official fmjfee.com website and keep the receipt for your interview.
3. DS-160 and appointment
Complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee and book your interview in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Students often apply early because summer dates fill quickly.

4. Documents to bring
Usually:
- Passport, I-20 and SEVIS receipt
- Admission letter and academic records
- Proof of funds (bank statements, sponsor letters)
- Test scores such as IELTS/TOEFL/SAT if used
5. The interview
Explain your study plan, why this university, how it is funded and your plans after graduation. Always confirm current rules on the official US Department of State and US Embassy UAE websites, as requirements and fees can change.
